In a historic 5-4 ruling in June 2015, the Supreme Court of the United State found bans on marriage equality to be unconstitutional — and that the fundamental right to marriage is a fundamental right for all.

Introducing to you yet another culturally huge issue which has a lot of folks all worked up over (again): Are people, in fact, born gay or lesbian? Is it simply a personal preference to identify with regarding sexual orientation? Also, perhaps most importantly, (why) is it a sin to be gay or lesbian? Can God Himself create someone to be gay in the first place and then judge them for being so?
From the 1991 Hypothalamus (Brain) Study, Simon LeVay, who self-identifies as gay, said, “It’s important to stress what I didn’t find. I did not prove that homosexuality is genetic, or find a genetic cause for being gay; I didn’t show that gay men are born that way, the most common mistake people make in interpreting my work. Nor did I locate a gay center in the brain.”

Technically someone can be born gay, according to Dr. Crawford Loritts who is senior pastor of Fellowship Bible Church. His reason? Well, we’re all born into sin. The point he stresses to support this belief is that sin should not be our identity, or who we are. If homosexuality is a sin and each person is born into sin, then wouldn’t it be logical to conclude that it’s possible to be born gay? Well, couldn’t a murderer say that same thing? Couldn’t a rapist say that he was born to be a rapist, claim that he knew it from a young age and then grow up demanding rights to sexually violate whomever he pleases? Of course not. We’re all delivered into and brought up in the world of sin, but no one is created and destined to carry out a lifestyle of a certain transgression or of transgressions (1 Thessalonians 4:3 :)).
So it’s a choice that people make, basically. A murderer has a choice to murder just like certain drug dealers have a choice to handle illegal drugs.
Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor the drunkards, nor revilers, nor the swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.
— 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, New American Standard Bible
Is homosexuality a sin? Leviticus 20:13 says, “If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death. Their bloodguiltness is upon them.” Apparently it’s a big NO-NO in God’s Book. It’s not an issue to debate or one that is unclear. When God says something is “detestable” that doesn’t mean to slap a rainbow on it and parade around celebrating it. There is no genetic excuse for living out any sort of evil lifestyle because each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Says so in James. God does not entice us into sin because he wants us to be holy. Says so in James as well.
“I think we’re all born with a proclivity to sin… which particular sin(s) is irrelevant since sin is sin, eternally speaking.
Some we discover on our own, some are taught to us by others or things we encounter.”
— Jamie G., follower of The Dirty Christians (2016)
The Bible wasn’t specifically written to attack gay or lesbian individuals. In fact, only a handful of verses in the Bible even discuss homosexuality. In other words, it is true that homosexuality is a sin, but the Bible isn’t obsessing over it like the culture is today. I like this quote by Jamie because it expresses very clearly that homosexuality should not be the main issue but rather all sin should be addressed and then handled appropriately (James 2:10). “Even though there are sins that are greater than other sins, all sin leads to eternal damnation. The reason sin does this is not because of the severity of the sin, but because whom the sin is committed against. Since it is God who gives the law, when we sin, we break his law. Therefore, we are offending God, and our sin is against him. Since God is infinite, our sins take on an infinite quality.” — Matt Slick, founder of CARM.
So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; make and female he created them. — Genesis 1:27
